God's Love

I think an important thing to point out about God's love is that it isn't always "nice." Obviously, we need to support those around us and show compassion, but it's also important to realize that sometimes the most loving thing to do is sit someone down and tell them that their attitude or behavior isn't acceptable. Also, showing God's love means stepping in where other people aren't and making changes in the world that are sometimes difficult (ie racial integration of the church). Love isn't always making everyone happy. It's about doing what's best for people in the long run. We need to be careful in the way we do this, obviously, but it still needs to be done. So that's not all there is to love, but it is an aspect of love that is often ignored. And that's my profound thought for the day.

Good point! The thought of God's love not always being "nice" is definitely supported in life as well as scripture. Accountablity is a very big part of love, especially Christian love. The difference comes, though, with how we approach the subject, I think. Love is still present, even if it's not nice feeling. There's that love still that drives us to something uncomfortable so we can come out on the other side of it changed and strengthen. You agree? I also think the point you made about doing things that are hard is a good one. God wants us to look at the world with his love, not the world's. This definitely means to me that we can't be constrained by social views and we have to look beyond them. It's really easy for me to not notice social trends sometimes just because I am, in fact, in society. And here I think accountablitiy comes back in the picture. We, the community of Christ, need point out things like this. I agree with you.

And you thought you'd be no good at this! You're great at this! No one else even commented!:)
